Correction of refracting defects (Miopia, Hiperopia and Astigmatism) through Lasik surgery. Presently, the Lasik technique is the most widely used and effective surgery for the correction of refractive defects. It involves reshaping the outer layer of the cornea with the application of the excimer laser beam.
The Lasik procedure is relatively fast and painless and reshapes the cornea to correct such conditions as myopia, hiperopia and astigmatism using the excimer laser beam. Before your surgery, a complete ophthalmology exam will be performed, which allows the physician to determine the present condition of your eyes and vision, and the shape and thickness of your cornea. A topical anesthesia is used for this procedure and there is no post-op bandaging necessary. The procedure takes approximately minutes per eye and the application of the actual laser takes just seconds for the correction of your vision. Post-op recovery is approximately 15 to 20 minutes. You will receive eye shields for sleeping and sunglasses are recommended for daytime use. Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and lubricants will be prescribed and must be used to reduce the risk of infection and inflammation. This procedure is performed in hospital well known for this type of surgery and equipped with all the latest technology and computerized laser systems.
